Very funky smell and very sour taste. When it's well fed it expands and becomes frothy in appearance.
Taste & flavour
Add equal by weight amounts of my flour blend (bread & all purpose) and water to existing starter. Blend well. Cover and leave on counter until use or next feeding.
My starter is made from: King Arthur's Bread Flour (50%) King Arthur's All Purpose Flour (50%) Spring Water (100%)
I mostly make bread with the starter but have made pancakes, rolls, cinnamon rolls and pizza dough at times.
